Halloween is fast approaching and buying all the decorations, costumes and sweets doesn’t come cheap. There are some great ways to save money during this time on all your essentials. If you need to buy anything for Halloween whether it is the sweets, the costume or parts to help make things yourself always remember to check for discounts. Stores and retailers are now offering competitive discounts and offers to encourage spending; they also offering money off vouchers, coupons and discount codes. Prior to shopping or buying anything always remember to check for these discounts and offers to help save money on your purchases.

Making your own costume can be a great way to make sure your costume is unique and individual; it will also save you money. There are plenty of costume suggestions on the internet to give you some ideas, you may be able to use clothes you already have or change previous costumes you may have. Look out for fabrics in the sales or for off cuts that match the colours you need such as blacks, orange and greens.

If you have decided to make some of your own decorations there are plenty things you may have around the house that can be used to make the decorations and this is a great way to get the kids involved. If you have any polystyrene left after getting a delivery or from when you have bought something you could turn this into a headstone to decorate your porch with. Cut the polystyrene into a square making the top rounded slightly and lightly carve R.I.P into the front or a message of your choice. Once this is done you can paint it grey and make the lettering stand out more by painting this a dark grey or black.

Bats can be easy to make and really add to your decorations, you can also use a variety of materials to make them depending on what you have to hand. Create a stencil of the out line you want to use making it easier to cut out several in one go. If you are struggling with this then you can check online are there are plenty of stencils to print out and use. If you have scraps of black fabric you could perhaps alternate between paper and fabric to give different textures and looks to your decorations.

Party games are important for a Halloween party and a piñata, although not traditional for Halloween, they are a great way to keep the kids entertained and can easily be made at home but you may need to buy something’s in order to be able to do this. Inflate a balloon to the desired size and cut up plaster cloth, dip the cloth in water and cover the balloon. Make sure that you leave a gap around the base of the balloon allowing you to fill it with sweets it is also recommended that you add extra around the base to reinforce the edges around the opening. Once the plaster cloths have dried pop the balloon and remove it from the inside and you can then decide how you want to decorate it, as the balloon is round you could make the piñata into a spooky skull.
