Brand new feature for CouponShack Local just rolled out. Now there's phone verification for local business owners. It's a simple 3 step process to verify your phone number. Just enter your phone number, click verify my phone (an automated call will be placed to your phone number), and then enter the 4 digit number (displayed on the verification screen) when prompted and your phone number will be automatically verified.

For new signups, you will see this option on the final page of registration, after you enter your coupon(s). Right now you can verify your website (if you have one) and your phone number.

If you have already signed up you can find this option under the My Businesses tab. Click on that and you will find a link to verify your business. On that page will be an option to verify your website and phone.

So why verify? It is part of our continuing effort to weed out the poor quality listings and to promote the higher quality listings. We'll continue to roll out more verification options. The more you verify, the better your positioning will be in the map search results. Other factors will play into the total quality score as well.

More exciting changes have been rolled out for CouponShack Local! There's a new look too. We're excited because this new design is cleaner and easier to use. I wanted to highlight a few of the other changes to CouponShack Local as well.

First, you'll notice that the business descriptions are now shown on the business location pages. Here's a tip. There is a 200 character display limit. You can write a longer description but only the first 200 characters will be displayed. Users will have to click the link to view more to read the rest of the description. This is your first opportunity to capture the customer so may the first 200 characters great.

Next, business hours are now displayed. If you have not done so please go back and edit your business information to display your business hours. Once entered you'll see them displayed next to the phone number under your business contact information.



A third upgrade is an improved rating system. When customers rate your company you'll see the star rating displayed in a graphical format. It's more eye catching and easier to understand than the previous numerical format. Customers can also read and post comments about your business directly on the business location page. Keep your customers happy and encourage them to leave comments.

Finally, social links are now visible on the business location page. Be sure to add your Facebook URL for your business as well as your Twitter ID. And if you have a website, enter that as well. These links will be displayed with icons for each. Customers can then easily follow your business on the web and in the social networks.

More new features for Coupon Shack Local continue to roll out every day. Right now, our main focus is rolling out great features for the business side. The latest feature to roll out is the listing completion page. You will see this page once you have added your business listing and posted your first coupon. Here is a break down of what this page is all about.

At the top of the page will be two options to Tweet or Facebook your new business listing. This helps get the word out. Just click on each link and you'll be able to update your Twitter or Facebook profiles with your new business listing. You can even customize your own message to go along with the status update.

Why is this important? You're building off your existing business relationships. Encourage them to rate your business and leave reviews. Local businesses with higher ratings will get preferential treatment in the search results for each zip code search. Promote your business listing on Coupon Shack Local, get high ratings, and you'll attract more new customers. Simple enough?

A third part of the business confirmation page is a link to verify your business. It's a simple snippet of code that you place on your website, which shows up as a small badge stating that you are listed on Coupon Shack Local. We'll verify that it is there and when confirmed you'll get a "Verified" badge next to your business listing on Coupon Shack Local. This will help your listing stand out more.

The fourth and final (for now) part of the business confirmation page is a link to add more coupons. You can add as many as you like so if you have another coupon to add for your business then by all means please do so!

Every day we continue to roll out cool new features for CouponShack Local. I thought it might be helpful to try and explain some of these features as we roll them out so that you can get the most out of CouponShack Local.

Here's tip #1. Take advantage of the tags when adding your business listing. These tags will be used as filters when a customer is searching for coupons within your zip code. It makes it easier to find exactly what you are looking for.

You are allowed up to 5 tags. Just enter them in a list separated by commas. You really need to put some thought into this since you are limited to just 5. I suggest using broad terms (but not too broad). If you are a pet store, then use terms like pet store, pet supplies, dog grooming, etc. If you are an Italian restaurant then maybe try Italian, restaurant, dining, bistro, etc.

In further releases of CouponShack Local we'll offer reporting so you can track the success rate of each tag. You can then experiment and change the tag to optimize your business listing in the local coupon search.

We've officially launched CouponShack Local! No April Fools joke here! In case you missed the pre-announcement, CouponShack Local will be a free place for local business owners advertise their products and services. It's completely free. No catch! Just create an account (it's just one click for Facebook users), add your business information, post your coupon (we'll even create a barcode so you can scan the coupon at the register), and start driving customers to your door!

If you work from home or do not wish to list your location, that's fine too. We respect your privacy. The drawback is your listing will not appear in the search results on the map. There will be an option that you can check that will tell customers that you prefer to be called for appointments.
