Going Green While Saving Green - Part 4

In a previous blog I talked about the amount of energy that is consumed on standby. I stated that you could save up to 10% off your monthly electric bill just by unplugging these electronic items at night. The problem I've found with this is that half the time I forget to unplug (or turn off) the power strip. I'm only saving money half the time. Now I don't know why I did not think of this before, but the simplest solution for this problem is to invest in a power strip that has a timer on it. It didn't dawn on me until I got an email from Big Al's Aquarium, listing all of their current monthly specials. One of the items listed was the Zilla 24/7 Dual Analog Timer Power Center; on sale for $34.99. I even checked all the other manufacturers of timer power strips (Aquarium Systems, Coralife, Fellowes, GE, Honeywell) and found that the Zilla power strip is the best for the buck. It was intended for terrariums and aquariums, but works just as well with home entertainment systems and other electronic devices. Just set it and forget it and you'll instantly notice the savings on your monthly electric bill.
