Coupon books are your best friend whether you are doing something locally or are going somewhere on vacation. Practically every city offers coupon books in some capacity. Most of us either do not use them or forget to check to see if there are any coupon books available.

Some of the coupon books you have to purchase. This is usually a small price that basically covers their printing costs. These coupon books are much larger and usually have several thousand dollars of discounts and coupons. There are also the free publications, which are smaller in size.

  1. First start by checking to see if there are any national coupon books or attractions cards for the city you are visiting. You have to pay for these coupon books but they usually offer the best discounts or free admission. The total value of discounts or freebies is well worth the cost of the coupon book.
  2. If you are buying a coupon book, check to see if there are any coupons offered for the purchase of the coupon book. Yes you can use coupons to purchase a coupon book. Sometimes saving as much as 90%.
  3. The best time to find a deal on coupon books is towards the end of the year when you can go ahead and purchase the coupon book for next year. (these are annual publications). Most businesses will honor the next year's coupon if it's the same discount as this year.
  4. Similar to the coupon books is the attractions cards. These are found in most major tourist cities. You pay one price up front but get admission to the top attractions to the city. In most cases saving 50% or more in what you'd actually pay as the normal admission rate. Look for coupons here as well to apply towards the purchase of the attractions card.
  5. If you are just visiting a few attractions, check the attraction's site before your visit. Many of them offer their own coupon books or value passes that includes admissions or discounts for other businesses.
  6. Once at your destination, check with the area Chamber of Commerce. They usually offer their own coupon books or can direct you where to pick up local coupon books in the area. Some you will have to pay for while others will be a free publication.
