Back in 1952, a clever pilot back home from WWII bought 2,000 army surplus mummy sleeping bags for $1.50 each. He set up shop under a tent pitched in a field in Portland, Oregon, and quickly sold all his merchandise, reaping a modest profit. Today, G.I. Joe's is a favorite Northwest retailer of sports and auto accessories, supplying customers with the gear they need to "Seize the Weekend." That young Army Air Corps pilot, Edward M. Orkney, then set up shop in an old building in North Portland. That store doubled in size in 1956. Over the years the company grew throughout Oregon and the Northwest. G.I. Joe's goal is to provide it's customers with the best selection of sports, outdoors and automotive gear available at the best possible prices.
G.I. Joe's is dedicated to making the Northwest a better place to live. G.I. Joe's provides support to youth teams, outdoor clubs and community-based programs designed to improve the lives of customers in the areas where G.I. Joe's has store locations. G.I. Joe's also focus on regional programs working to improve environmental quality as it relates to the active outdoor person.
